Wheelchairs for the Lao Disabled Basketball Team

During our last few weeks in Laos we had the wonderful opportunity to meet and work with the Lao Disabled Peoples Association (LDPA) where we were assisting a close friend and fellow volunteer, Bev Jefferson, to wrap up a few projects.

One of the projects that we were helping out with was the Australian Sports Outreach Program (ASOP) which provided some funding to the LDPA to assist with promoting wheelchair basketball in Laos.  Part of the funding was assigned to purchase new wheelchairs as they currently only have enough chairs for one team, and the chairs they have are mostly second hand and some are in need of repair.  This makes it quite difficult for the guys to train properly, let alone play or compete in full games or competitions.

The total price for 4 new basketball wheelchairs to be delivered to Laos from China is $3950USD of which the ASOP grant and another private donor has provided $3200USD, so we are $750USD short of the target.

Seeking $750USD for 4 new sports basketball wheelchairs.

Cheers, Joe.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed. I will now proceed to order the wheelchairs for the LDPA and I'll let you all know when they have been received.
